About

We’re North Foster Farm, a small family farm in Foster, Rhode Island. We raise chickens on grass, move them to fresh pasture regularly, and feed them grain that’s free of GMOs. We think that’s how chickens should be raised, and we think you can taste the difference.

How we raise them

Our Cornish Cross chicks spend their first few weeks in the brooder under heat lamps. Once they’re fully feathered they graduate to the field, where they live in mobile pens that we move onto fresh grass every day.

Our laying hens sleep in a secure mobile coop and spend their days on pasture: fresh air, sunshine, grass and insects, with clean water and fresh feed always within reach. When the good stuff starts to dwindle, we move the coop to a new spot and start again.

Out on pasture the hens eat grass and insects, and it shows in the yolks, a bright golden orange all season. When the grass goes dormant in winter, we switch them to a full ration of non-GMO feed, chosen to keep their eggs first-rate until spring.

What we sell

We raise a premium chicken, and we think it’s worth it. Our birds live on pasture, and we take pride in that. Moving them to fresh grass every day takes time, and so does keeping feed running out to the far corners of the field. We do it anyway, because we think it’s right, because it makes our chicken better, and because it’s the most respectful way we know to raise animals.

Pasture-raised whole chickens and cuts, chicken sausage, and eggs by the dozen. Everything is available at our farmers markets and through the order page for on-farm pickup, pickup at one of our drop sites, markets or pop-ups, or delivery.

The markets are our favorite place to be because it’s where we get to meet the people who appreciate what we do. We make friends, serve our community, and have a great time doing it.
